Product Description

Thin, lightweight ripstop fabrics have a two-dimensional structure as thicker yarns are interwoven in thinner fabrics. Older lightweight ripstop fabrics show a thicker interlocking thread pattern very prominently in the material, but more modern weaving techniques make the ripstop less noticeable. A similar effect can be achieved by weaving two or three spun yarns together at smaller intervals.
The advantages of ripstop nylon are a favorable strength-to-weight ratio and small tears that do not spread easily. Fibers used to make ripstop include cotton, silk, polyester, and polypropylene, with nylon content limited to the cross-hatched lines that make it tear-resistant.
Nylon Ripstop Fabric is a woven fabric, usually made of nylon, that uses special reinforcement technology to make it resistant to rips and tears. During the weaving process, the (coarse) reinforcing yarns are regularly interwoven in a cross-hatch pattern. The spacing is typically 5 to 8 mm (0.2 to 0.3 inches).
