How waterproof and breathable fabrics work:

Note that there are two types of waterproof and breathable fabrics: water-resistant and waterproof. The former is divided into fiber/cloth type (not windproof but breathable) and membrane type (windproof but not breathable); the latter is generally permeable. Two-layer or three-layer, windproof, two-layer is softer than three-layer, and has better air permeability, while three-layer is stronger.
